What's Tupp?
What does your grocery shopping habits look like?
Here is how mine looks:
Once a month I do a BIG stock up order. This includes most of the meats, and non-perishable items we need for about a month.
Every week we stock up on fruits, veggies, milk, bread, eggs, bagels, and other necessities that we either don't have enough room to store the amount we need for a month's worth or they will perish before we can use them.
We use Instacart to have our groceries delivered. If you're looking to give them a try use code: KSEFFINGA to get $20 off your first order! Instacart is a convenient way to shop especially for those who don't drive (like myself and hubby) or have other reasons for not wanting to go to the store (limit on time, energy etc.) I do recommend giving them a try and looking at stores that use in-store pricing on Instacart.
Once we have our groceries inside we organize them into categories. These categories are Laundry Room, Fresh Fruits & Veggies, Freezer, and Meats.
Our laundry room us under lock and key and stores what we don't want our children to get into without our permission. I tell you if we tried to store all the snacks in our kitchen, there would be no snacks within 48 hours of our groceries entering our house.
Fresh Fruits and Veggies are taken out of store packaging and immediately put in to Tupperware Fridgesmarts and set on the appropriate setting. This allows our produce to stay fresher for longer. Basically Fridgesmarts create the perfect environment for your produce to thrive. Before produce is harvested it needs the perfect environment to grow and thrive. Fridgesmarts provide the right environment in your fridge.
Freezer items are put into Freezermates and labeled. This prevents items from being frozen into one big glob of unknown substance and prevents Freezer burn. Things no longer go into my freezer to die a miserable death because they're to damaged to be eaten (RIP former meat that was wasted without ever being consumed.)
Meats really depends on my mood and my stamina. This is because it is a lot of work to separate everything into Freezermates for portions (bulk buying saves you money) and for freezing. Everything needs to be labeled so you're not guessing what is inside. We use address labels and write on them but you could use a Chalk marker or a grease marker. If I don't have it in me to get everything organized then and there, I put all the meat into the fridge and do it as I use the meats. I tend to do the latter throughout the month and the former on my big monthly grocery haul.
An honorable mention to my grocery habits is my Modular Mates. I keep telling myself to start using them more and I am slowly adding some to my cupboards. I tend to add them when dry goods packaging have been open. This is what is working for me for now so I figure why change it!
Once this is all done I sit down exhausted and order myself a pizza for dinner because man that was a lot of work.
Just kidding. I usually have a meal prepared or an easy meal in mind so I can sit back and not have to worry too much about how my food is cooking.
