About Karen Johnson

I’m Karen, a certified play advisor (aka toy lady) with Discovery Toys.  I Live in upstate New York with my husband of 46 years ( college sweetheart) and my adult son who we adopted as an infant from Bogota, Colombia. We have fourfeline fur babies, Buster, Nala , Pepper and Sophie who were dropped on our doorstep 5 years ago as itty bitty kittens. I am retired from my job of 20 years as a paraprofessional, working with middle school students with autism and special needs.  I love to garden, travel, read, do all types of needlework, swim and listen to good music.

I began my Discovery Toys business when my son was 3, after attending a neighborhood party.  I was so impressed with the quality of the products and their learning value.  Going from two incomes, no kids to one income with kid, I thought this was a good way to earn some extra income and get some great toys at a discount for my son, never dreaming I would still be in this business today!

Discovery Toys offers educational toys, games and books for all ages and abilities, including those with special needs and autism.  They come with a lifetime warranty (what other toy company does that?). The company has been around for 45 years.  These products aren’t just for little ones, even adults enjoy our games.  You are never too old to play!   Play is essential for the healthy development of a child.  Did you know that 85% of our brain is fully developed by the age of 3 years?  And 90% by the age of 5 years?
